Learn about the significance of the site to Māori and see the restoration work occurring within this important wildlife reserve.

Blue Penguins Pukekura tours start within the Royal Albatross Centre and occur at dusk when this species of penguin returns to land from a day spent at sea.

Only one tour is available each night so bookings are essential.

Hosted by The Pukekura Trust: The Pukekura Trust is working towards revitalizing the Takiharuru/Pilots Beach nature reserve. Revegetation is well underway with the planting of over 3000 native plants. The project will eventually provide a living insight into the flora that was once abundant over the entire Otago Peninsula. In addition there is ongoing predator control in the area, benefiting the little penguins and other wildlife. All our work on site to protect the land and the penguins is solely funded by revenue generated by our tours.
