Carving Through Time: Geology, Hydrology, and Nature

  • Outram Glen Scenic Reserve (map)

Taieri Network presents an incredible field trip led by Candice Martin (University of Otago) and Nicole Foote (NZ Landcare Trust) on an eye-opening journey through the forces that shape our landscape. Discover the power of water, the influence of fault lines and tectonic plates on rock formations, and the captivating ‘story’ nature tells through its land and rivers.

This adventure offers an engaging blend of education and hands-on exploration, diving into the geological and ecological wonders of the Taieri. Learn about the vital role of geology and water quality in sustaining the region’s unique flora and fauna, and how natural events influence our way of life. Explore the species that call the Taieri River home, gain insight into the river’s current meandering pathway across the Taieri Plain, and uncover what the river looked like thousands of years ago and the lasting impact on the unique species found here today.

This activity involves a steep bank and a gravel riverbed, making it unsuitable for wheelchair users or those with mobility impairments.

This is hands-on learning experience concludes with a relaxed BYO picnic.

Note: Meet near the public toilet.

Cost: $8.54 pp. (incl. booking fee)
