The Flying Whale Gallery

  • The Flying Whale Gallery 13 George Street Port Chalmers, Otago, 9023 New Zealand (map)

House sparrow illustration by David Elliiot

Gallery open Friday (14th) - Sunday (16th) from 11 am-4 pm.

Over the Festival the Flying Whale Gallery will show a collection of beautiful and  whimsical illustrations connected to the whenua by David Elliot, an award-winning illustrator and writer of children’s books.

A substantial part of David’s work deals with his lifelong connection with the rural landscape; the world of trees, horses, birds and most of all, bumblebees.

Many of these drawings once nestled between the pages of much-loved children’s books.  Now in the Gallery, they are ‘liberated,’ appearing on mugs, tote bags and blankets, together with beautifully produced prints and cards.

No Booking Required.

(Gallery closed Monday and Tuesdays. Wednesday - Sunday open 11am-4pm)

Hosted by The Flying Whale Gallery: The Flying Whale is home to the works of David Elliot, an award-winning illustrator and writer of children’s books. He has published 10 picture books of his own, including his gorgeous board book for the very young, Bumblebee Grumblebee. He has also illustrated for many authors, both locally and internationally.
