Getting Closer - Photography Field Trip (SOLD OUT)

  • Orokonui Ecosanctuary 600 Blueskin Road Mount Cargill, Otago, 9081 New Zealand (map)

This juvenile ngirungiru (South Island tomtit) is rapidly growing up. Over the past couple of months photographer Paul Sorrell has been keeping an eye on her at Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

Saturday (15th) and Sunday (16th): 9.30 am – 12 pm

This special photography field trip will be hosted by author and photographer Paul Sorrell at the beautiful Orokonui Ecosanctuary. Paul will be taking a select group on a guided walk through the sanctuary to practise photographing our beautiful native birds and environment.

Paul will share tips, tricks, and specialist knowledge for the perfect shot. Paul is an experienced nature photographer who is passionate about bringing art and nature together through photography. With a focus on lighting, backgrounds, and composition, Paul credits his results to many hard hours of focus in the field. In 2021 he published a photography handbook, Getting Closer: Rediscovering Nature Through Bird Photography, a guide to connecting to nature using a photographer’s eye. You can join Paul in the café after the workshop to talk more about photographing birds.

Book now to participate in this tour, limited spaces are available, and places must be booked. Don’t miss Paul’s workshop on Thursday 13 April, with helpful tips and tricks for wildlife photography, and then enter your images in the Tūhura Photography Competition before it closes on Monday 1 May.

Visitors will need to provide their own transport to Orokonui Ecosanctuary.

The price covers entry to Orokonui Ecosanctuary and a guided tour.

Bookings essential.
